1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Clearstep ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Automation Step Cost Analyzer app ("the App") on Atlassian Jira Cloud.
The App is a Forge app that runs entirely within the Atlassian infrastructure on your Jira Cloud site. We do not operate a separate backend server.
2. How the App Accesses Data
The App only analyzes data that you choose to import.
- The App is a native Forge app ("Runs on Atlassian") and uses Atlassian's native Forge authorization
- The App requests only two scopes:
read:jira-workandstorage:app - The App does not ask you to sign in to, or connect, any other service
All rule analysis is performed on data that you manually export from Jira and import into the App.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Automation Rule Data
When you use the App, we process:
- Exported Automation rule JSON — Rule configurations you manually export from Jira and import via copy-paste or file upload
- Scan results — Analysis output including estimated step counts, risk flags, and rewrite suggestions
3.2 App Usage Data
- Scan history — Timestamps and summary results of previous scans (last 20)
- Digest history — Scheduled comparison reports (last 20)
- Settings — Your preferences for digest scheduling
4. How We Store Your Data
All data collected by the App is stored in Atlassian Forge app storage, which:
- Resides on your Jira Cloud site
- Is encrypted at rest by Atlassian
- Is isolated to your specific Atlassian instance
- Is not accessible to other customers or sites
We do not transmit your data to any external servers. The App operates entirely within Atlassian's infrastructure using Forge's sandboxed runtime.
5. How We Use Your Data
We use the collected data solely to:
- Analyze your Automation rules and estimate step costs
- Identify high-risk patterns and provide optimization suggestions
- Generate comparison digests between scans
- Display scan history for your reference

8. Important Disclaimer
Step cost estimates are not billing data. The estimates provided by the App are approximations based on static analysis of rule configurations. They do not reflect actual Atlassian billing and may differ from your real step consumption due to:
- Dynamic rule behavior at runtime
- Variable trigger frequencies
- Conditional branch execution
- Atlassian pricing or calculation changes
Always refer to your official Atlassian billing dashboard for actual usage and charges.
9. Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
- Access — View all stored scan history and settings in the App UI
- Delete scan history — Clear saved scans via the "Clear" button in the UI
- Delete all data — Uninstall the App to permanently remove all stored data from your site
10. Security
We implement security measures appropriate to Forge apps:
- App runs in Atlassian's sandboxed Forge runtime
- Data is not sent outside Atlassian's infrastructure
- All data remains within your Atlassian site boundary
- Only the minimal scopes

11. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for business use within Atlassian Jira Cloud. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the App listing on the Atlassian Marketplace. The "Effective Date" at the top indicates when the policy was last revised.
